My class blog

After spending the week thinking about starting a homework blog I decided to see if their was any interest from my students.  I had created my blog earlier this week but did not tell my students about it.  In my last two classes on Thursday I asked my students if they would like to have a place on the internet where they could go and ask questions about the homework, and classwork redos they are working on and have me answer them.  I was overwhelmed by the hands that went up.  Almost all my students were interested.  So I showed them the blog I set up and told them to use that evening because they had homework due the next day. That night I had two students post questions and I was able to help them.  I am very excited about my blog and I can not wait to get to school today and talk it up to all my classes.
Check out my homework blog and let me know what you think.

  1. Your homework blog is a great way for students to start using a blog while getting extra help. The concept of students moving to the next level with your assistance without even being in the same room is in the direction of the Communication Age (Toffler, 1980). As I was reading some of your students’ comments on your homework blog, I started thinking about the personnel attention you are giving your students as though you are working one-on-one. The use of blogs like the one you have created can be very beneficial. I work with elementary students, and I cannot tell you how many times parents have mentioned how they could not help their child with the homework because of the level of difficulty. If parents of elementary students feel this way, I am sure there are parents of middle and high school students that feel the same frustration when trying to help with homework. I did notice your responses to your students’ comments were very close in time. Did you give your students a specific time frame that you would be online to answer any problems?

  2. I was actually just really excited about the possibility of the blog so I was checking it like ever 10 minutes or so. I told the students I would try to check often but ultimately we would have to remember that this was the first time we were using the blog I didn't know how it was going to work and if I would always be able to respond quickly.

  3. Blogs would be an excellent strategy to use to reinforce key concepts in class when assigning homework because it would allow parents to participate in their child education. One of the challenges may be modifying the assignments for students who do not have a computer or Internet access. In my county, we have started this pilot program where several elementary and middle schools were provided a laptop to use at school and at home. I think that is a wonderful idea because this would give teachers an opportunity to assign blogs for homework.
